January 13, Tues: Basking in aftermath of interview and serious possibility of living here. Surreal. Must find visa. I wasn’t interviewed for the job. Deemed “seriously over qualified” but without a necessary visa. Today’s task, get a visa.
Drop by the Wine Odyssey*, which coincidentally is across the street from where I spent New Year’s Eve White Party 3 years ago. Who knew this circle would play out? Head up the stairs at the Rocks to the Australian Hotel to meet NYC/Cali friend, Lor, and another girl I apparently know from New York that is a Sydney native, who works at the bar there. I continue my interviews via phone and inform the family that… well, I haven’t come home. And… may not.
They all kept breathing. Informing the New York contingent of friends will definitely prove a bit harder. My family has had a lifetime to adjust to my decision making skills.
Lor and I are planning on a Toss the Boss night, but plans get interrupted. We explore the Sydney Opera House instead, and rest at the Opera Bar where we meet Mr. San Francisco. As circumstances have it, a certain security guard at the Opera Bar becomes entirely smitten with me. While flattered, I’m not smitten quite the same. I begin wondering how I’ll ever regain entry to the most “special” bar in the entire city/country without acquiescing to a date with the ever so persistent bouncer. We manage to scatter without catch. I will be worried next time however.
